Clunie Reid- THE BALLAD OF THINGS TO COME (7'04")

This is “trash polemic” for a time of quantum complexity, cognitive dissonance and ironic exacerbation that takes the long and the short and the recurring view, and combines clichés, quotations, wordplay and graffiti in a series of productive juxtapositions concerning technology, sexism, representation and violence. With smatterings of Shakespeare and business speak, health warnings and bunny rabbits, set in the versatile program of PowerPoint, The Ballad of Things to Come revels in and mocks the authority inherent to the polemical form and satirically asks WTH is going on?

The work was commissioned for Powerpoint Polemics at the Photographers' Gallery to mark the 26th anniversary of the birth of Microsoft's Powerpoint software.
